Ziggy Stardust and The Spiders from Mars

1972

David Bowie

Psychedelic Rock

The story of Ziggy and his band of Martian spiders remains one of the greatest Glam Rock albums of all time. If you haven't listened to this in the past month then it's most certainly time. A story loosely describing the arrival of an alien band to Earth comes across as such and while the narrative is less important the music feels as revolutionary. Moving through soul music, folk, rock, and classical all with a sheen of glam sets this album apart. Not to mention the incredible guitar playing by Mick Ronson, this album is a must-listen.

The production on this album is impeccable. Bowie's voice echos throughout while Mick's guitars rock harder than most. The piano's are perfectly percussive and the background vocals, violins, and synths provide a backdrop that is anchored by a rock-solid rhythm section.

One could go on about how perfect the bass line is on 'Hang On to Yourself' or how 'Rock `n` Roll Suicide' builds into a miniature orchestral piece rivaling anything the '60s or '70s has ever produced but you're here and you need something to listen to, so listen to this. Take a trip to when an alien band invaded the 1970s with this masterful work by one of the greatest to ever live.
